Questions People Ask Us
-
I've never worked in insurance. Can I actually do this?
Yes. We built this program for professionals coming from outside insurance, including realtors, mortgage brokers, CPAs, and financial advisors. Training is the core of what you get. We teach you carriers, products, appetite, quoting, and binding through structured onboarding, then keep coaching you well past launch. What you bring is the sales ability and the client relationships. We supply the rest.
-
Do I need a license?
Yes, you need a property and casualty license in your state. You don’t need one to start the conversation with us. Most people study and pass the exam in 30 to 45 days, then onboarding begins.
-
How do I actually make money?
You earn commission on every policy you write, and you earn again every year that policy renews. New business pays 80%. Renewals pay up to 80%. That renewal stream is the difference between a referral fee and a business.
-
What does it cost to start?
The total initial investment is $25,000, plus working capital for your first several months. That covers your franchise fee, onboarding, technology setup, and carrier appointments. You also need enough runway to cover personal expenses while your book builds. We walk through the full number on the discovery call before you commit to anything.
-
How long until I'm up and running?
Most new owners are quoting business within 30 to 60 days of signing. Licensing takes the longest if you don’t already hold a P&C license, usually 30 to 45 days of study and exam. Onboarding, carrier appointments, and technology setup run alongside that. If you’re already licensed, the timeline compresses.
-
Can I keep my current business while I do this?
Yes. Most of our owners keep their existing practice running and add insurance alongside it. That’s the point of the model. Your current clients are the ones you’ll write first, so the two businesses feed each other rather than compete. How much time you put in is your call.
-
Do I have to do the servicing myself?
No, servicing support by licensed agents is available if you want it. You choose how much you hand off. Some owners keep servicing in-house because they want the client contact. Others offload renewals, remarkets, and back-office work so they can spend their time selling. You decide, and you can change your mind as the agency grows.
-
How is this different from just referring insurance out?
A referral pays you once. Owning the agency pays you every year the policy renews, and it gives you the client’s other policies too. When you refer a client out, that agent writes their auto, umbrella, and everything after. When you own the agency, you write all of it, and you own an asset you can sell later.
