  3. Take Licensing Exam

    Once Texas approves your license application, you can start on your path to becoming a successful independent agent. Establishing an insurance business can take years, including the following tasks:

    • Applying to work with insurance companies as an independent agent, so you can sell their policies
    • Setting up your business
    • Marketing to potential clients
    • Completing continuing education and other requirements to renew your license

    In Texas, you have to renew your license every two years. It’s best to finish your continuing education at least a month prior to expiration, to reduce delays in renewal.
